At the Year 3 Science Club this week, we conducted an experiment on changes of state. Our hypothesis is that the acid in the fizzy drink causes the protein (casein) in the milk to seperate. We used one cup of fizzy drink and mixed it with one cup of milk. We let the solution sit for five to ten minutes. After pouring some of the fizzy drink in, we could see the milk and fizzy drink move and separate in the containers.  Slowly but surely, you can see in the photos below that the milk begins to curdle! (this is our chemical reaction taking place). The top layer is the milk and the bottom layer is the fizzy drink.  We couldn't believe our eyes - the liquid that we had at the beginning of the experiment had changed into a solid!
